THE PROJECT

Part living room.
Part kitchen table.
Part clubhouse.

The narrative interior design draws on the warmth of a well-loved kitchen table — a place where there is always an extra plate and a chair summoned up, no matter how many arrive. The ground floor layers yellow and terracotta checkerboard floor tiling with brushed stainless steel surfaces and a tactile mix of materials that unites the separate zones — kitchen, service, bar — into a sensory, atmospheric whole. Downstairs, the mood shifts entirely: rattan, hessian and a heavy velvet curtain reveal deep orange cord seating that invites guests to settle in for the duration.

The lighting design was critical to the scheme’s success — subtle enough to freshen overcast lunches, warm enough to set the mood for late-night lounging, and responsive to the full arc of a day’s service. The two floors are distinct in register yet unmistakably the same place: the same warmth, the same generosity, the same material honesty. Space planning across both levels ensures the room operates as well at full covers as it does at a quiet mid-week lunch.

The concept was designed to be creative hospitality design that travels — a design vernacular specific enough to feel genuine, flexible enough to go to subsequent venues without feeling like a formula. The shortlist for Restaurant – Europe at the International Hotel and Property Awards 2021 was the clearest external validation that the experiential interior design achieved what it set out to.

Sidechick draws on treasured collective memories and encourages guests to create new ones. Part living room, part family kitchen table, part clubhouse. The design creates the conditions for that kind of evening. What happens in the room does the rest.

“A place where there is always an extra plate and a chair summoned up, no matter how many arrive.”
