10 Feb Padella X Shoreditch
It seems a slow, inch by inch process from sketchbook to the first plate on the table. But Padella Shoreditch seems suddenly to be unloading irresistible sourdough from the gleaming ovens as cutlery is polished.
An iteration of the original Padella, it’s ‘in family’ rather than a carbon copy. New place, new design rules. These imposing ceilings and vast windows demand their own special treatment. We’ve used oxblood vegan ‘leather’ on the central seating banquette with brass detailing and highly polished wood in smooth, sinuous lines. The Padella P is rendered in traditional marquetry, using contrasting woods in a modern format. And the 8 meter bar in a mix of burgundy, ochre and grey delivering a sense of old world glamour. The original structural concrete is left raw to contrast against the glistening chefs playground that is the open kitchen, and unites the different sections of the restaurant. Here’s hoping Shoreditch loves pasta as much as Borough Market.
